Phoebe Carey Rites Conducted

Funeral services for Phoebe Carey, 55, were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, 1972, at Fulkerson Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Dwight Harshman officiating.

Pallbearers were Roy Kallevig, Whitey Hart, John Iken, Bill Petty, Jim Petty and Frank Verhasselt. Vocal selections were “Rock of Ages” and “Beautiful Isles of Somewhere.” Interment was in Sidney Cemetery.

Phoebe Priscella Carey was born Feb. 11, 1917, in Inman, Minn. As a child she came to Lambert with her family where she grew up and attended schools. She married George Carey on Jan. 11, 1936, in Sidney. The couple left the Sidney area in 1948 as George was on construction work and in 1964 they moved to Stevensville.

They returned to Sidney about three years ago and have lived here since. She has worked as a practical nurse for the Richland County Health Department and at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula. She was visiting her mother and son in Missoula at the time of her death.

She passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 1972, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.

She is survived by her widower, George; her mother, Mrs. Hattie Madsen of Missoula; one son, Virgil Carey of Missoula; one daughter, Mrs. Whitey (Vaujhnda) Zieske of Yakima, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Greff of Missoula and Mrs. Helen Klamm of Spokane, Wash.; and four grandchildren, Margene, Leslee, Scott and Jimy.

Fulkerson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
