Moved to Saskatchewan along with his older brother Herman in 1903. When the two returned to Minnesota (for Herman to bring his family up) in 1904, John relenquished his homestead, and stayed until he bought different land in March 1908, which he later sold in 1915. By this time, he had bought another half section (in the fall of 1913), which he kept.
