Notes for Alfred DODD

The family was living in Almonte, Ontario as of the 1871 census.

Alfred was supposed to have moved to British Columbia around 1894 (so right around the time of his marriage). It should be noted that it appears to be a double wedding; Alfred and Minnie, and George Moore and Dolly Mabel Binyon (both couples were the witnesses to each other’s wedding, performed on the same date).

But, his daughter Selina was born in Bracebridge in 1896. He was a lawyer at this time. I think his recollection of when he moved to BC was wrong.

In the 1901 census he was living with his parents and siblings in Calgary, but he is listed as Single (not Divorced). From what others have found on familysearch.org, it looks like Minnie stayed in Ontario and remarried while Alfred came out west. If he stayed west from before 1900 on, then he never saw his kids again before they both passed tragically.

Was living as a boarder (with many other boarders) in Kootenay, British Columbia in the 1911 census (heads of the household were Halmer and Hilda Byorklund originally from Sweden).

He lived in Merritt, British Columbia for some time.

He worked as a saw filer before retiring in 1931 (having worked for 50 years).
