Two obituaries were published for Roy:

“MACLEOD, Feb. 11. (Special) - Roy Grier, second son of the late David J. Grier, died at the Macleod hospital on Sunday evening at 8 o’clock after less than a week’s illness. Roy, along with his three brothers and two cousins were the pallbearers at his father’s funeral on Sunday, February 3.

On Monday morning Mr. Grier did not feel well and went to bed. On Wednesday night he became seriously ill and was brought to the hospital on Thursday morning. Brain trouble was the cause and he had remained in a state of semi-consciousness since arrival at the hospital. Mr. Grier was 49 years of age and is survived by Mrs. Grier and four young children.

He was overseas and is a veteran of the Great War. The funeral will probably be held on Tuesday afternoon from Christ’s church, Macleod.”

“ROY GRIER

MACLEOD, Feb. 14 - (Special) - Forty cars followed the funeral cortege of Roy Grier, 49 to Macleod cemetery Tuesday at the close of the service held in Christ church (Anglican), conducted by Rev. F. Randall Powell.

Mr. Grier just one week before acted as pall-bearer at his father’s funeral, the late David J. Grier. He was stricken down on the Monday after his father’s funeral.

Roy Vivian Grier, the second son of David. J. Grier, was born in Macleod, November 4, 1885, where he grew up and was educated. In early life he lived on the farm 5 miles north of Macleod. In 1915 he enlisted with the Army Service Corps. On his return from France in 1918 he resided in Calgary and was employed at the C.P.R. till 1928, when he returned to Macleod and took over a part of his father’s large farm.

In August 1921, in Calgary, he married Miss Eva Palmer, who survives him, also three children, Jean, 11; Billy, 9; and Hugh, 4. Deceased is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. F.J. Sandgather, Granum; Mae, in Chicago; Mona and Nina in Macleod, and four brothers,. Joe, Norman, David in Macleod, and Fred in New York City. Curran Grier, Macleod, and Richard Jones, Spring Point, are uncles and Mrs. J. Steinoff and Mrs. D.W. Davis, Macleod, are aunts.

Pall-bearers were C.H. Miller, J. March, Allan Ellis, Ralph Lantings, Wm. Portch and W.G. Andrews.

Roy Grier was a member of Alberta Lodge, No. 3, A.F. and A.M., Macleod, and 35 members of the order, including a number from Granum Lodge, were present at the funeral. Dr. Alan Kennedy took charge of the Masonic ceremony at the graveside.

Mr. Gried was also a member of the Veterans Club, B.E.S.L., and 15 members in attendance and passed the grave, depositing the scarlet poppy on the casket. The funeral was in charge of George McFarquhar.”
