Notes for Gabriel Leroy “Roy” WALLING

He and Sophia were still living in Oregon (Forest Grove City) in the 1910 USA census. Gabriel is listed as a “Show Man”, his wife and teh 4 other people living with them are all listed as actors (the others are: Oliver S White of Indiana, Paul McReynolds of Nebraska, Sue M. Chapin of California, and Charles Schad of Nebraska

When he was registered for WW1, he was in business for himself in Providence, Rhode Island and is listed as being a V* Producer (Vaudville, maybe?). He did claim an exemption for being Sole supporter for wife & mother. He was medium build, 5’9”, blue eyes, dark brown hair.

A brief mention of Gabriel selling a play in New York City is in the Daily News from New York, July 3,1940:

Boyar Associates, the eight theatre craftsmen who formed their own producing unit, have bought a second play, this one called “World of Their Own.” The author is Gabriel R. Walling, who’s better known locally as Roy Walling, the pay-broker and director. The producing group previously bought “Bangtails,” a comedy by Henry Misrock and Sol Rosen. Both are due early in the Fall.
