Obituary from Barrie Examiner October 10, 1942:Born on the family homestead in Minesing. The farm came into the family possession from the Crown. He was the only surviving son of Joseph Orchard & Selina Long, one of the early pioneer families of Minesing. He lived in Minesing except for a short time when he was G.T.R. operator at Penetang and Wyevale. For 42 years he had been Railway agent GTR & CNR at Minesing Station and retired in June 1933. A Methodist, he later became a member of the United Church after the union of the 2 churches. A Liberal and member of the Independent Order Of Foresters. Active in the organization of school section No. 15 Vespra, in 1909 he became secretary the following year and continued in that office 21 years.Married Margaret Ethel Jones in 1895. Survived by 4 daughters; Katherine at home, Mrs. George Carr(Winifred) of Gilford, Ella of |Toronto and Audrie at home. Also one sister Mrs. John Marshall of Washago.He was of a retiring nature, quietly interested in political ans community affairs and highly respected by those who knew him.
