Haunted House is one of many Aardvark adventure games written in BASIC, but this one was targeted to a younger audience (recommended age of 8-12 or 8-13). So it is an easier adventure, and throws in sound every once in awhile as well. It was also cheaper (2/3 the price) of their "regular" adventure games. In the 1983 Aardvark Catalog, there is a note from the author Bob Anderson:
Authors note to players - This one was fun to write. The vocabulary and characters were designed for younger players and lots of things happen whey give the computer commands. This one teaches logical though, mapping skills, and creativity while keeping their interest.
