The Deserted Barracks is a text adventure game, but I would label it somewhat for beginners (I mean that in a good way), in that it doesn't have the player trying to guess the proper verbs, etc. to use to play the game. Instead, it presents a finite set of choices that you can pick from for each location/situation (kind of like the old Choose Your Own Adventure books). If you make a selection that affects what you can do in a location, then you are presented with a new menu based on that. A rather innovative way to do a text adventure game, that isn't as frustrating for a beginner. From what I can tell, this was independently released by the author.
