Adventure #8: Pyramid of Doom is a bit unique in that the game was 90% written by Alvin Files with the remainder tweaked by Scott Adams (who created the game engine originally on the TRS-80 Model I). Alvin reverse engineered Scott's original game engine and created this adventure from that, and then submitted it to Scott. Scott was impressed enough that after he did some minor changes, he made the game officially part of the Adventure series. The game engine uses a two word VERB NOUN text parser (it had to fit in 16K RAM originally). This one was originally released in 1979, and ported to the Coco by June 1983 by . Later a patched version came out to support the Coco 2B (with the T1 derivative of the VDG (Video Display Generator) chip, which featured true lowercase letters. This also works with the Coco 3. The game also supports saving and restoring a game in progress.
Pyramid of Doom was rated by the company as a Moderate skill adventure game. This game has the player exploring ruins (including the Pyramid) trying to find all of the treasures. The game also features a dedication at the beginning to Ray Harshaw.
NOTE: By August of 1983, Adventure International was offering Tri-Pack adventures for both the Coco and the Atari 8 bits; these offered 3 adventures for 1 lower price. The packs were Adventures 1-3, Adventures 4-6, Adventures 7-9 and Adventures 10-12.
