Maze Master is a Coco 3 exclusive machine language maze game with a huge maze (multiple screens worth - more than 9. Maybe 16?) that came out on the tape magazine T&D Issue #98 (August 1990). While the T&D flyer that came with the issue claims that the game has built in instructions, that is not the case. So, from play testing it, as near as I can figure things out:
1) Your goal is to collect all of the randomly place keys from the maze before your Time runs out (shown on the lower left of the game screen with T ####. The K part on the bottom shows how many keys you picked up already - I am not sure what the total is).
2) There are little "dots" (they look like X's) that fill the maze at the start, ala Pac Man. However, you do not get any points for eating them. What they actually do is stop the timer from counting down as long as you are eating them. If you are traveling across previously eaten (and now clean) paths, the timer keeps going.
3) There are always 2 exits on each side (so 8 per screen in total) that will take you to the next screen... but from what I can tell, you jump to random maze screens rather than a fixed map, which makes the game harder.
The game itself is quite challenging and fun, with some decent sound effects and nicely done 16 color graphics (including some messages made up by the walls in a few screens). The joystick controls let you stop without moving by centering it; however the timer will count down when you do this, so do that sparingly. It is a little more difficult than it should be to take corners in my experience. But you can get somewhat used to it. This is quite a high quality title for a magazine.
I haven't managed to beat the game yet; I presume your score will be based on the Time left over once you have gotten all of the keys.
